Everything you need to know about the placement process in 2018.

Capacity is now open for training facilities to submit their availability for registrar placements for 2019. They have until Sunday, 1 July 2018 to submit their capacity which will be displayed on the Facility Finder.

Based on feedback, we are providing you with two options this year to secure your placements for 2019 - manual matching or automated matching.

Please see below for details on the process and frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am currently on leave, am I able to commence GP in 2019?
A: Unless you have completed and had a recognised prior learning application approved, you must complete your first 12 months in a hospital position that you must arrange personally.

Q: I am currently on leave, should I look for practices for 2019 if my recognised prior learning application hasn’t been approved?
A: You should discuss your application as soon as possible with your Program Training Advisor who will be able to provide you with instructions on what to do.

Q: I am currently completing my 12 month hospital term, do I need to start looking for practices for 2019?
A: Yes, you will need to apply for positions at training facilities for each semester for 2019. This will include submitting applications to the training facilities and attending interviews.

Q: Do I cover all the paediatrics requirements to start GP in 2019?
A: To commence community GP training, you must have completed a 10 week pure paediatrics rotation, or a 20 week dilute paediatrics rotation, or submit evidence of having completed the Diploma of Child Health to your Program Training Advisor.

Q: What is manual matching?
A: Manual matching enables you to secure placements at training facilities without submitting placement preferences as part of the automated matching process. If a training facility interviews you and wishes to employ you at their facility, we will confirm the match manually once we receive an email confirmation from you and the training facility. Your 2019 placement is then complete and you do not need to participate in the placement preferences and automated matching process.

Q: What if I don’t receive any responses from the practices I’ve approached?
A: As with any standard recruiting process, we would encourage you to apply to multiple practices to increase your chances in finding a suitable training facility.

Q: Am I able to work anywhere?
A: You must comply with your training pathway obligations as per the Training Obligations Policy, found in the GP Registrar Policy Handbook.
