Be the GP you were born to be
Applications for the 2022 intake of the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program will open in March 2021.
General practice as a career has the breadth, scope and complexity of treating patients of any age and gender and sees patients through all stages of illness. This creates enormous variety and is professionally challenging.
As a GP, you never know what is about to walk through the door. Each day, GPs investigate and analyse how culture, psychological and sociological circumstances affect people’s health and experience of disease. GPs use this understanding to empower patients to lead healthier lives.
The AGPT program
The best journey to fellowship as a GP is on the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program. The AGPT program is offered through two GP training colleges, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
The ACRRM training pathway focuses on rural and remote medicine. The program is designed to expose registrars to a diverse range of health issues to prepare them for the challenges of rural and remote health care.
RACGP registrars have the option to train on the general or rural pathway. The RACGP pathway is designed to equip registrars with the skills and knowledge they need to practise as a GP in both metropolitan and rural locations.
