RACGP Registrar Series - Ophthalmology

Enrol

Improve your skills in assessing, treating and managing ocular conditions and presentations.

Patients with ophthalmic infections, corneal foreign bodies and conditions constituting an ophthalmic emergency will often initially present to their GP. Not-to-miss presentations such as moderate pain, photophobia, reduced visual acuity, eye-trauma or unilateral marked redness can indicate an ophthalmic emergency.

Safe and effective management of these presentations avoids sight-threatening and eye-threatening complications. Knowing the relevant procedural skills and indications for referral is equally important. Presented by GP Dr Lewis MacKinnon, this interactive session covers a wide range of ophthalmic issues patients often present with, including red eye conditions, ocular hypertension, acute glaucoma, atypical eye infections, foreign body removal and ophthalmic emergencies.

Learning outcomes include:

  1. Recognise the important not-to-miss ocular conditions.
  2. Describe the management of common ophthalmic infections.
  3. List the process for safe removal of ocular foreign body.
  4. Identify and manage ocular hypertension.
  5. Determine the appropriate management of acute glaucoma.

Light refreshments will be provided. For more information and to register, please click here.
