Psychiatric Emergencies Assessment and Care

The Psychiatric Emergencies Assessment and Care (PEACE) Workshop is an all day, interactive program. This program will be facilitated by a team of emergency medicine specialist and psychiatrists designed to help medical practitioners who practice in rural and remote settings.

This workshop will help those working in these outer-metro areas refresh their expertise in mental health diagnosis and treatment. Participants will be equipped with the skills required to manage patients with chronic mental health conditions who present to the emergency department in crisis.

Objectives of this workshop include:

  • Mental health assessment
  • Prescribing and medication complications in mental health patients
  • Increased understanding of the Mental Health Law
  • Increased understanding of crisis, intervention and brief therapies
  • Understanding of medications, alcohol and drug dependence
