Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crisis course

The simulation-based Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises (EMAC) course is an Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) course that provides training in the management of adult anaesthetic emergencies. EMAC is designed for anaesthetists, GP anaesthetists and anaesthetic registrars.

It consists of five modules run over two and a half days covering the topics of human factors, airway management, cardiovascular emergencies, anaesthetic emergencies and trauma management.

The course is a valuable educational opportunity and a requirement of the ANZCA training program. EMAC emphasises the importance of teamwork and communication and the team leader role during an anaesthetic crisis.
