AGPT contract extension to 2023

Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, yesterday advised WAGPET would continue to deliver the AGPT program through to semester one, 2023.

Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, yesterday advised WAGPET that our contract to deliver the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program would be extended through to the first semester, 2023.

The government, colleges and department have each strongly reaffirmed that any changes to the AGPT must minimise any disruption for current or future GP registrars, supervisors, trainers and practices.

We share their vision of GP training needing to align with health system reform, especially in primary care and the emerging national workforce strategy. Specifically, we need to consider how to better develop a well-trained, safe, quality health workforce across rural, remote and disadvantaged communities across Australia.

WAGPET supports this reform opportunity and we are deeply committed to ensuring your voice is heard and contributes to the important work that now lays ahead.

Ongoing communication, consultation and minimal disruption remains our commitment to you.
